Otter Color Picker Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Otter Color Picker ("Otter") handles information when you use the application.
Otter is designed primarily as a local macOS application. Its core color-picking, color-exploration, and palette-management features operate on your Mac.
Information We Do Not Collect
Otter does not include advertising, third-party advertising trackers, or third-party analytics services.
Otter does not require you to create an account to use the application.
Otter does not intentionally collect or transmit to Otter-operated servers:
Your name or contact information
Your browsing history
Your location
Your contacts
Advertising identifiers
Usage profiles for advertising
Images you open locally
Colors or palettes you create locally
Otter does not sell personal information.
Analytics and Tracking
Otter does not use third-party analytics or tracking services to monitor your activity across apps or websites.
Otter does not use your information for targeted advertising or cross-app tracking.
Local Data
Otter stores some information locally on your Mac to provide its features and remember your preferences.
This may include:
Application preferences
Saved colors
Recent colors
Color palettes
Interface settings
Other application state required for normal operation
This locally stored information is not automatically transmitted to Otter-operated servers.
Some optional features may communicate with another application, website, or remote server when you explicitly use those features, as described below.
Removing Otter may not automatically remove all macOS preferences or Keychain data associated with the application.
Images
When you open an image from your Mac, Otter may process the image to inspect colors, generate palettes, or provide other image-related color tools.
Locally selected images are processed on your device and are not automatically uploaded by Otter to an external server.
If you explicitly provide a remote image URL or use another feature that retrieves remote content, Otter may connect to the corresponding remote server to retrieve that content. The remote server may receive technical information normally associated with an internet request, such as your IP address.
The privacy practices of that remote server are controlled by its operator, not by Otter.
Screen Color Sampling
Otter includes a screen color picker that allows you to select colors displayed on your screen.
macOS may require Screen & System Audio Recording permission for this functionality. Otter uses the screen-access portion of this permission to obtain the visual information necessary to determine the color you select.
Otter does not use this feature to continuously record your screen, create screen recordings, record system audio, or transmit screen contents to an Otter-operated server.
You can manage this permission at any time in:
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording
Clip Studio Paint Integration
Otter provides optional functionality that can communicate with Clip Studio Paint.
When you choose to configure or use this integration, Otter may communicate with Clip Studio Paint through a local network or local device connection.
Connection credentials required by this feature may be stored securely in the macOS Keychain.
Otter does not intentionally transmit these credentials to an Otter-operated remote server.
You are not required to use the Clip Studio Paint integration to use Otter's other color tools.
Clip Studio Paint is a product of CELSYS, Inc. Otter Color Picker is an independent application and is not affiliated with or endorsed by CELSYS, Inc.
macOS Keychain
Sensitive connection information used by certain optional features may be stored using Apple's macOS Keychain.
Keychain data is managed by macOS and protected using Apple's system security mechanisms.
Otter does not intentionally store these credentials as plain text in its ordinary application preferences.
Keychain items may remain on your Mac after Otter is removed and can be managed through macOS.
Network Access
Most core Otter functionality does not require an Otter account or an Otter-operated cloud service.
Network access may occur when you explicitly use functionality that requires it, such as:
Retrieving an image from a URL
Using optional local-network integration with another application
Opening external websites or support resources
When Otter connects to an external service at your request, that service may receive standard technical information associated with the connection, such as your IP address.
The handling of information by third-party services is governed by their respective privacy practices.
Data Sharing
Otter does not operate an advertising or analytics data-collection system and does not sell personal information or share user information with advertisers or data brokers.
Information may nevertheless be transmitted to a third party when you explicitly use a feature that communicates with that third party. For example, retrieving an image from a URL requires a connection to the server hosting that image.
Data Retention and Deletion
Colors, palettes, preferences, and other application state stored locally by Otter remain on your device until they are removed through the application, macOS, or by deleting the corresponding application data.
Credentials stored in the macOS Keychain may remain there independently of other application data until they are removed from Keychain.
You can revoke permissions granted to Otter, such as screen access, through System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Because Otter does not maintain user accounts or an Otter-operated cloud database containing your locally created colors, palettes, or images, there is generally no corresponding Otter cloud account data to request for deletion.
If you have a question about data associated with Otter that you believe cannot be removed locally, you can contact us using the email address below.
Security
Otter is designed to minimize unnecessary transmission of user information and uses system security mechanisms such as macOS Keychain when sensitive connection information needs to be stored.
However, no software, network connection, or storage mechanism can guarantee absolute security.
Please do not send passwords, authentication tokens, or other sensitive credentials when contacting support.
Children's Privacy
Otter is not designed to collect personal information from children.
Otter does not require an account and does not intentionally collect personal information through its core functionality or maintain profiles of children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Otter's features or information-handling practices change.
When this policy is updated, the Last updated date at the top of this page will be revised.
Material changes will be reflected on this page before or when the corresponding application functionality is released.
